Your email. One purpose.

When you sign up, The Guardian Sphinx website stores your email address, the time of your signup, and your agreement to receive series updates. The list is for trailer, Kickstarter campaign, and release news.
Your choices
Signing up is optional. Save the private unsubscribe link shown after signup. Using that link removes your email from the active list. Treat the link as private: anyone with it can unsubscribe that signup.
Storage and website operation
Signup records are stored in the website’s hosted database. They are not displayed publicly. The hosting platform processes requests to operate and secure the site. To limit spam, the signup form keeps a temporary, hashed identifier derived from your network address and the current hour. Expired rate-limit records are cleared when the form is used.
Email delivery
New signups receive a welcome email through Twilio SendGrid. Your email address and the message are shared with that service for delivery. We record whether the welcome message was accepted for sending and when the attempt occurred. Messages include your unsubscribe link. Open and click tracking are disabled in our welcome-email integration.
Website activity counts
We keep daily totals of homepage views, trailer plays and completions, campaign-link clicks, and new signups to understand interest in the series. These counts do not contain email addresses, visitor identifiers, referrer URLs, or raw IP addresses. We do not use tracking cookies or browser storage for these counts. Browser activity tracking respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control; operational signup totals are recorded separately.
To limit automated requests, we temporarily store an hourly hash derived from the network address, separately from the activity totals. Expired rate-limit records are deleted on later requests. Aggregate daily totals may be retained for the life of the project and cannot be tied back to your signup.
Other services
The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which receives the network requests needed to deliver them. Google Analytics is installed to help us understand website visits and engagement. Google receives usage and device information and may use analytics cookies. Our integration disables advertising personalization and Google signals, respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and does not load on the private unsubscribe page. The initial page address sent to Analytics excludes query strings and fragments. These analytics are separate from our own daily activity counts. Learn more at Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. If you follow a Kickstarter link, Kickstarter’s own privacy practices apply.
Retention
Your signup remains on the series update list until you unsubscribe or the list is retired. Unsubscribing removes your email and welcome-email status from the active website database. If email delivery is active, the delivery provider may retain its own operational records.
